Queensland Championship Grand Finals 2011

The Queensland Gaelic Football Championship grand finals took place on Sunday 28th August 2011.

First up was the reserves championship at 12:00pm, with John Mitchels playing against Souths, with John Mitchels emerging as the victors with a scoreline of 3-10 to 2-04

At 2pm was the ladies championship final where John Mitchels were playing against Easts Celts with lots at stake as neither of these two teams have won the Queendland Ladies Championship before, and this was also the first grand final for the Easts Celts team. John Mitchels have won this game with a scoreline of 2-16 to 1-04, earning them their first ever win.

The day finished off with the senior championship final between John Mitchels and Harps, the same two teams as were playing in the 2010 final. This was always promising to be hard fought game of football, with John Mitchels being the Queensland League winners 2011, and Harps playing to defend the championship title after having dethroned John Mitchels in 2010. Harps at the end managed to win this championship after successfully fending off a John Mitchels comeback in the second half having led by 6 points at half time 0-07 to 0-01. The final score was 0-11 to 1-03.

Well done to all teams involved in what was a great day of football, with teams representing 4 of the Queensland Clubs.

Queensland League Round-Up & Championship Pairings

Congratulations to John Mitchels for winning the Queensland League this year in all three football grades. Each league was keenly contested with quality opposition leading to some very exciting games. There is very little between the teams, and this will make for a championship to remember in 2011!

In the Hurling League, congratulations to Na Fianna who have finished at the top of the table and will be rewarded with a spot in the Final, where they will play the winners of this Saturday’s Semi Final between Ch Cuhllains and the newly formed in 2011 Emeralds team. There has been some great display of hurling this year, and it is fantastic news that we have a third team in the mix this year. Continue reading
